Traveling from Marrakech over the Atlas Mountains to Merzouga or Zagora to have a desert experience you usually stop in Ouarzazate. A stopover to stretch your legs or have lunch. If you left early in Marrakech you will be in Ouarzazate by noon. As a photographer a bad time. The sun is right above you and there is hardly any shade and therefore no contrast.

We had already completed an entire journey of some 5,700 km through the Balkans. For weeks the photographer's eye had been spoiled by the most idyllic spots. Breathtaking nature, rocky mountains and without participating in the TV program we regularly drove on 'The most dangerous roads in Europe'. Yet there was one village we still wanted to visit. Lukomir, a village in the Bjelssnica Mountains, is located at an altitude of1495 meters and is the most isolated village in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

On the program is Thailand. We always have a motto during our travels. "Where the tourist goes left, we go right". So we don't go to the white beaches in the south, nor do we want to drink cocktails in Phuket. Our destination is northern Pai. As a photographer, you look for the images in the capillaries of the, for us still often unknown, society. For this we will take a jungle trek to a Hill Tripe Village on the border with Myanmar in the far north of Thailand.

The flight is always a 'thingy'. For a jungle trip you can not bring all equipment. Critically look in the camera cases and think carefully about what to take and what not to take. You'd rather leave two pairs of pants at home to be able to take one extra lens. We fly from Amsterdam to Bangkok. We stayed the night there and one day later took the train to Chiang Mai.

The island of Bonaire is part of the Dutch ABC islands. ABC stands for Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao. All three are beautiful islands in the middle of the Caribbean.

The Danube delta is a true paradise. Where this river flows into the Black Sea are the hidden villages Letea and Sfiștofca. A long journey of 5 hours on the Danube brings you from Tulcea to Sulina after which you take a small boat through the swamp to Letea. With cart a horse you finally arrive in Sfiștofca after hours. You enter a world of which you did not think it still existed.

Mostar is a city that I have taken to my heart. A city as an example of rebuilding after a senseless war.

During the corona pandemic, I traveled through Italy. I then decided to make a reportage in black and white. All the people were wearing mouth guards. The distance between me and the people was too much for me. So this trip I did not photograph people.

During our trip through Montenegro, we experienced what warm friendliness means. A warm welcome in Rožaje where the making of sheep cheese could be photographed. But it was also nice in the Roma refugee district of Podgorica.

Essaouira is a beautiful fishing town on the Atlantic Ocean. It used to be called Mogador during the Portuguese occupation. Now it is bustling city where Jimmy Hendriks once lived for a few months.

In the early morning at 4 o'clock we went to the bakery to photograph the baking of the daily bread. It was baked in a large and traditional wood oven. This is another social anthropological subject that we may fear will not exist in 10 or 15 years.

One of the king cities in Morocco

On September 11, a true spectacle will take place in the German town of Bad Hindenlang in the Algau region of Bavaria. That is the day the shepherds bring down their cows from the Alps. It is a celebration of rich tradition. It is a true folk festival that attracts thousands of visitors each year.

Lukomir is a small village in the mountains near Sarajevo in Bosnia Herzegovina. The road to it is a real challenge. From the main road it is another 15 km to Lukomir. The road is unpaved and often steep uphill. Because of those conditions you cover the 15 km in almost 3 hours. You won't encounter a single other house on the way to Lukomir. But when you finally arrive you are rewarded. Lukomir, a lost village or a well guarded treasure. You can say?

Here you will witness the preparation of a typical Slovenian baking product. The Potiza. Nada and Minnie are sisters-in-law and not only have mastered this art of baking but they have incredible fun doing it together.

During a short visit to Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, I saw these street musicians. A huge energetic band that created a wonderful mood.
